QUININE DIHYDROCHLORIDE INJECTION 300 MG / ML
Quinine Dihydrochloride Injection is indicated for the treatment of: -
Acute attacks for malaria including attacks due to chloroquinine- resistant or multi-drug resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum.
Cerebral, Severe or complicated malaria
When vomiting, prevents retention of an orally administered drug.
COMPOSITION
Each ml contains: -
Quinine Dihydrochloride BP …300 mg
Water for Injection BP … q.s
DOSAGE
The dosing and strengths of the dosage form are expressed in terms of quinine dihydrochloride (salt). Usual adult dose and adolescent dose: -
Intravenous (if an infusion pump is available), 7 mg per kg of body weight over thirty minutes followed immediately by 10 mg per kg of body weight diluted in 210 ml per kg isotonic fluid over four hours, repeated every 8 hours until oral treatment can be instituted. Or intravenous (if an infusion pump is not available), 20 mg per kg of body weight over 4 hours followed immediately by 10 mg per kg of body weight diluted in 10 ml per kg isotonic fluid over 4 hours, repeated every 8 hours until oral treatment can be instituted.
