NEOMYCIN SULFATE & DEXAMETHASONE SODIUM PHOSPHATE OPHTHALMIC OINTMENT

Neomycin + Dexamethasone is a combination of two medicines: Neomycin and Dexamethasone. Neomycin is an antibiotic. It stops bacterial growth by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Dexamethasone is a steroid medicine. It blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause redness, swelling and itching.


COMPOSITION

Each Gram contains: Dexamethasone sodium phosphate USP eq. to 

Dexamethasone Phosphate (0.5 mg)

Neomycin sulfate USP eq. to Neomycin (3.5 mg)

Sterile Ointment base Q.S

Light liquid paraffin BP 1.2%

White petroleum jelly BP 97.50%

Hard Paraffin BP 0.9%

Method of administration: Ophthalmic Ointment

SIDE EFFECT
Allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue.
Changes in vision.
Eye pain.
Severe burning, stinging or swelling of the eyelids.
Watery eyes.




PRECAUTION

Prolonged application of steroids may lead to local and systemic steroidal effect, intraocular pressure may increase and in disease leading to thinning of the cornea, perforation may occur. Hypersensitivity to this preparation is very rare, as is occurrence of fungal and even more rarely bacterial, secondary infections. Prolonged application of steroids to the eye may, very rarely, cause development of subcapsular cataracts.
