ARTEMETHER INJECTION  80 MG

Artemether 80 mg Injection is indicated for treatment of severe and complicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum both in adults & children in areas where there is multidrug resistance. Treatment of uncomplicated malaria in situations where there is widespread prevalence of multidrug resistance Plasmodium falciparum infection.


COMPOSITION

Each ml contains:

Artemether 80 mg

Ethyl Oleate BP ……q.s

Method of administration: oily solution for IM injection

DOSAGE

80 mg in 1 ml ampoule (80 mg/ml), oily solution for IM injection
Child and adult:
3.2 mg/kg by IM injection on the first day followed by 1.6 mg/kg once daily

SIDE EFFECT

Artemether has been remarkably well-tolerated and appears less toxic than quinine or chloroquine; adverse effects include bradycardia, electrocardiogram abnormalities, gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea – oral therapy only), dizziness, injection site pain, skin treated with artemether. Drug induced fever has been observed with artemether.





PRECAUTION

Do not exceed the prescribed dose. In case of over dosage urgent symptomatic treatment in a specialised unit is required.

Caution is required in patients with cardiovascular disease, Hepatic impairment and renal insufficiency.

Artemether Injection is available in 1 ml Amber colour glass ampoule.
