Diclofenac Sodium is a Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drug used to treat pain associated with conditions like Gout, Migraine, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and sprains of muscles and joints and in mild to moderate fever in some cases..





COMPOSITION (Capsule)

Each hard gelatin capsules contains:
Diclofenac Sodium… 75 mg
(As sustained release pellets).

Each enteric coated tablet contains:

Diclofenac Sodium BP .............50mg

DOSAGE

Diclofenac Tablet –

For the relief of osteoarthritis, the recommended dosage is 100-150 mg/day in divided doses (50 mg twice a day or three times a day, or 75 mg twice a day). For the relief of rheumatoid arthritis, the recommended dosage is 150-200 mg/day in divided doses (50 mg three times a day. or four times a day, or 75 mg twice a day.). For the relief of ankylosing spondylitis, the recommended dosage is 100-125 mg/day, administered as 25 mg four times a day, with an extra 25-mg dose at bedtime if necessary.

Diclofenac gel –

Diclofenac gel is usually applied four times per day to the affected area.

Diclofenac Injection –

Not intended for intravenous injection. Only for deep intragluteal injection into the upper quadrant. 75 mg by intramuscular injection once daily or twice daily in severe cases; each injection should be given at a different site. In renal colic the intramuscular dose of 75 mg may be repeated once after 30 minutes if necessary. Diclofenac ampoules should not be given for more than a few (2) days. If necessary, treatment can be continued with oral therapy.


SIDE EFFECT
Diclofenac when administered orally following side effect may occur: upset stomach, nausea, heartburn, diarrhoea, constipation, gas, headache, drowsiness, skin rashes, Tinnitus and dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, consult doctor or pharmacist promptly.



PRECAUTION
Allergy – Diclofenac Sodium is not recommended if you have a known allergy of medicines belonging to NSAIDs. Severe allergic conditions like Asthma and itching can be triggered in such cases.
Peptic Ulcer – in patients suffering from peptic ulcer, Diclofenac can cause severe swelling and bleeding in the stomach, colon and anus.
Diclofenac Sodium is not recommended for relieving pain after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery.

Diclofenac Injections are presented in 3 ml amber glass ampoule.
Diclofenac Gels are available in 15 g, 20 g & 30 g tubes.
